NorthridgeFix and Why You Should Stay Away

A while ago I had a 2nd hand 2tb drive that I had dumped all of my random files on including Family Photos and Videos. One day the drive stopped loading after a Windows Update but the lights would flicker like there was active session. So I tried a few USB cables and different plugs in my computer. I also tried on my laptop but encounter the same issues. While watching various different channels I came across this mans channel called “North Ridge Fix” who had various videos claiming to repair hard drives.
After reaching out to them with the details of my issue. I was then given an address to send my hard drive to.

After sending the package off. They received it about 4-6 days later on 2022-04-26 to which they updated the ticket that they received the item. I hadn’t heard anything for well over 2 months. So I reached out to them on 2022-06-05 about any updates on my drive. I received a reply on 2022-06-06 by a lady named “Dolly Elali”. They said that they are checking in with their techs on the status of the repair. They said their turn around time is 3-8 weeks which is well over the 2 month mark.
I waited another month and replied on 2022-07-06 that response and time is taking way too long for me and that I would like my drive sent back to me and to cancel the repair. Dolly Elali again reached out to me all I received were “I apologize about the delay and that she will reach out to their techs and get back to me asap. At this point I was getting irritated that they were not sending me the item back. Again reaching out to them on 2022-07-10 I received a reply on 2022-07-11 from Dolly Elali. Again apologizing and that she will check again. I received no updates until 2022-07-21. She claims that she didn’t get back to me because shes still waiting to hear about the status of my device.
I kept getting the run around and no response emails when I would contact them to STOP looking at my item and to package it backup and mail it back to me. Then invoice me the label costs. Of course they did not listen to me and proceeded to look at the item about another month later. On 2022-08-01 I received a reply from “Alex Ali” which stated they my data from my hard drive unfortunately cannot be revived and that he inspected the circuit board and found no issues. He further states that the drive has mechanical problems that require a lap to recover the data. He included an invoice for $64.25 which after some back and forth he would only accept a check. Since I wasn’t very polite in the responses at that point. Eventually he agreed to allow me to pay by Credit Card and that he would reapply a “Discount” which was far lesser than the original.
In the end I had to pay $64.25 for them to look at nothing which I didn’t want them to do since I explicitly told them to take me out the que and send me the item back minus the label costs. When I received the item back it would not even turn on and no lights flickered. I am unsure if they removed parts or damaged the item when they “looked” at it.

I would strongly suggest you do not send anything to them to be looked at unless you like waiting months and you won’t recieve your item back. I wish I had read the Yelp Reviews prior to sending anything to them and that is the fault of myself.
